The Senior Expert Service is a German organisation that sends volunteers - retired or during a career break - to developing countries. The aim of the SES is to help people to help themselves. According to the SES, more than 12,000 experts are currently volunteering for the SES in more than 160 countries. The SES is organised into a foundation and a non-profit limited company, both operating under the official name Senior Experten Service - Stiftung der Deutschen Wirtschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit. There is also the possibility to work with the World Service 30+ as an SES specialist, possible after at least eight years of professional experience.

There have been 217 SES missions since 1987. Most of the missions have been in the fields of education, construction, health, food industry, public administration, textile and packaging industry. The number of missions has risen sharply in the last years from five in 2015 to 20 in 2016. Around 30 experts were active in Rwanda in 2018

Among other things, senior experts are deployed at IPRCs and VTCS and train the local trainers in the respective teaching professions and techniques. For example, through training in the handling and maintenance of metalworking machines or in the masonry trade.
